Charles and I working on the longitudinals for the round stern. Charles was, and still is, an experienced metal worker and metal sculptor, and was indispensible in that first year of the project. He helped set the tone for the whole process, with his meticulous craftmanship and attention to detail. At the time I had done a lot of metal sculpture, up to 15' high, but it was all oxy-acetylene welded... I had never picked up an arc welder. Charles had worked in industry, and worked on the boat for about a year, and I learned a lot from him. After that I was on my own. I was very pleased that he came to the launch, 27 years later. Next
